M1860/67 Short Lund.

This rifle is a rebuilt M1860 kammerlader. This is one of the two

main alteration models from chamber loading to the brass cartridge.

patent that is mentioned here was based on replacing the chamber

with a compact steel brick where the firing pin went inside. The

ignition was done the same way as before with the cock beneath

the lock, but the cock was prolonged so that it would reach the firing

pin. Today a lot of these rifles has center firing, but in the army only rim fire was used. Most of these rifles are modified from short 4 linjers chamber loaders M1860, but a small number were actually built brand new with Lunds patent at Kongsberg Arms Factory. Those guns are called 4 linjers short Lundsgevær M1867. The only difference between the long and short Lund rifle is the extra barrel band on the long Lund and that the barrel is 910 mm, while it is only 755 mm on the short Lund.
