DFS, Det Frivillige Skyttervesen, (shooting association) was founded by the government in 1893, where their goal was to promote shooting skills among the Norwegian people, and prepare them for the army. (DFS is the largest shooting association in Norway with about 160.000 members). DFS is only using rifles, no handguns alowed. Every year there are a Norwegian National Championship within DFS, and about 5-7000 shooters participate. Today almost everybody use the Sauer 200 STR (Scandinavian Target Rifle), but before that rifle came on the market in 1990, there was several Norwegian rifles represented. The most common can be seen above.
